Christmas Experience – Following our recent PTA meeting we have decided to hold our Gibson Christmas Experience in December. This is where our school is transformed into a Winter Wonderland with different activities planned for the children before they meet Santa. This proved very popular when we last held it three years ago and we will provide more details when dates have been confirmed.

High Standards – At our most recent staff meeting we spent time looking at the standard of pupils’ work. While I am pleased to say that the overall standard was very good we have identified a number of areas for improvement. These include:

  • Pupils’ spelling and hand writing (particularly formation of letters and numbers)
  • Pupils’ knowledge of number facts (especially time tables in Y5-7)

While we will be working on these in school your assistance in ensuring children are taking time to learn these at home and implementing them in their work would be appreciated.

After School Activities – Activities are planned as outlined below

Monday Activities:       2 October       9 October       16 October      23 October

Thursday Activities:     5 October       12 October      19 October      26 October

School Health – Flu Vaccination Project All pupils who have returned their medical consent form will have the flu nasal vaccination administered on Thursday 19 October. Thank you.

PTA Hallowe’en Disco – The disco is taking place on Tuesday 24 October. As in previous years Year 1 – 3 disco and party games will take place from 6.15 – 7.15pm, while the Year 4 – 7 disco/party will take place from 7.30 – 9.00pm. All children who attend MUST be accompanied to and collected from the school foyer. Fancy dress is optional.

Parent Interviews – will be taking place for Year 4 – 7 children on Monday 6, Tuesday 7 and Thursday 9 November. Appointments for these interviews will be sent home in due course. Year 1 – 3 children’s parent interviews will take place at the beginning of February 2018.

Car Parking – This continues to be a challenge. I’ve spoken to teachers to ensure all pupils leave school promptly and will continue to be in the car park when possible. Everyone’s understanding and patience is required. Please remember two cars parked badly can block the entire car park!

Photographs – It is planned that all children will have their photographs taken on Wednesday 8 & Thursday 9 November. As in previous years parents will have the opportunity to have family shots taken on the evening of Wednesday 8 November ~ more details to follow later.

One Pound coins – You will be aware that the old £1 coins go out of circulation on 15 October 2017. To facilitate banking no old £1 coins will be accepted in the school office after Wednesday 11 October. Thanks

Conkers – Please remember that we are a NUT FREE school. Conkers and Acorns are nuts and should not be sent into school. Thanks!
